From the moment she first learned the truth about witches…she knew she was born to fight them.
Now, at sixteen, Iris is the lone girl on the Witch Hunters Special Ops Team.
But when Iris meets a boy named Arlo, he might just be the key to preventing an evil uprising in Southern California.
Together they're ready to protect the human race at all costs. Because that's what witch hunters do.
Welcome to Hollywood.

Hollywood Witch Hunter is one of those fun urban fantasy books that doesn’t take itself too seriously and just has fun with the genera. I don’t always like a lot of pop culture references or specific locations from where the book is set, but Tejeda does a great job of it. She makes it all part of the world that is Hollywood and the feel of the story reminds me of Veronica Mars or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, dark, but not too dark, funny, but not too funny… you get the idea, it’s that nice middle ground that’s so hard to find.

The story follows Iris, the first and only female witch hunter. Their task, to stop witches from killing outside of the agreed upon rules and to protect the humans. But when an old prophecy starts coming true, regular patrols become not so regular and Iris has to prove herself even more.

The story is full of action, snark and there’s even a bit of a love story. It’s a totally fun read, but it also deals with a lot of larger societal issues as well. Iris is Hispanic and the only girl in a secret world run by men, so there’s sexism and racism that she has to deal with as well as the regular every day stuff any witch hunter has to deal with. The story does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and I’m DYING to find out what happens next. Tejeda has created a world that seems like it could really be happening in LA right now and that I as a reader could totally jump right in and I want to jump right in again!

I experienced this story through audiobook, and it was really well done.  Narrator Connor Eiding has a great voice that keeps you engaged with the reading and drives the story forward.

Hollywood Witch Hunter started as an ebook only release, but is now available in paperback, audiobook and ebook.
