At the beginning of 2013 I read a book an said this is my review  “It’s the start of 2013 and I can’t imagine any other book topping my list for the year.” I was right, Out of the Easy was my favorite book of 2013.  If you have not read this one yet – run to the store or log into a book site and GET THIS BOOK. You will not be disappointed. I am not the only one that thought this book was AMAZING it is one of the top ten books in YA for the Goodreads Choice Awards. You can read my review here.

It’s 1950, and as the French Quarter of New Orleans simmers with secrets, seventeen-year-old Josie Moraine is silently stirring a pot of her own. Known among locals as the daughter of a brothel prostitute, Josie wants more out of life than the Big Easy has to offer.

She devises a plan get out, but a mysterious death in the Quarter leaves Josie tangled in an investigation that will challenge her allegiance to her mother, her conscience, and Willie Woodley, the brusque madam on Conti Street. Josie is caught between the dream of an elite college and a clandestine underworld. New Orleans lures her in her quest for truth, dangling temptation at every turn, and escalating to the ultimate test.

With characters as captivating as those in her internationally bestselling novel Between Shades of Gray, Ruta Sepetys skillfully creates a rich story of secrets, lies, and the haunting reminder that decisions can shape our destiny.

  1. Hmm, tough to pick just one! A few that impressed me were The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness by Susannah Cahalan, and The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna.

  2. My favourite book of 2013 . . . that's a hard one. But one of my favourite reads from this year includes The Fire Horse Girl by Kay Honeyman. It was a really great book and a fun read too.

  3. There were SO many great books this year! I really loved When the World Was Flat (And We Were In Love) by Ingrid Jonach and Angel Fever by L.A. Weatherly. Thanks for the giveaway!!

  4. My favorite book so far this year is Thunder Dog by Michael Hingson with Susy Flory. Last month, our book club talked about disabilities and the advances of science and technology helping those to get connected with resources to bridge the gaps. I liked how in the book, Rosalle, his guide dog, got trained and leads him down the stairs at the WTC on 9/11.
