I was super excited to be able to attend a screening of The Host earlier this week with my mom and fellow TwlightMOM Heather (pictured with me). The movie was amazing, review below, and I can’t wait to talk about it with you all! We were treated to a Q&A with Stephenie Meyer, Jake Abel (Ian) & Max Irons (Jared) after the movie.
Check out the video of the full Q&A now (sorry it’s not perfect, it was taken with my cell phone and the theater was still kind of dark and I got to ask the last Q):
I got to attend an advance screen of The Host in Chicago, IL on March 9th. The crowd had a lot of Stephenie Meyer fans, but also a lot of people who I don’t think had read The Host. They were shocked at a lot of the moments that were direct book to movie, it was kind of entertaining to have people laugh and other wise react to things I was anticipating or understood/expected as a reader of the book.
The Host movie really brings the book to life. Like any adaptation, there’s a few changes and things left out, but Andrew Niccol has done a great job at capturing what’s important and bringing our beloved characters to the big screen.
The movie is filmed amazingly well, it’s just a beautiful movie and I can’t wait to see it again and catch all the details in the landscape that I missed the first time around. Saoirse Ronan does an amazing job at playing both Wanda and Melanie and her “goodbye” scene is just heart breakingly beautiful. The rest of the cast, including Jake Abel (Ian) and Max Irons (Jared), brought the world and characters to life. I admit it’s been a while since I’ve read the book, so I can’t nitpick over all of the physical features of each character that doesn’t quite match up, but I’m kind of glad for this. I was able to just sit back and enjoy the movie and watch the actors fill the essence of the scenes and characters I was excited to see on the big screen.
I hope that you all can just sit back and enjoy the movie as much as I did, you will not regret taking a more relaxed approach to this adaption. And if the man in your life is worried about you dragging him to another Stephenie Meyer movie, they wont be disappointed this time around, this movie has something for everyone! It’s full of action, just the right amount of romance and a great story!
