After surviving an assassination attempt, teenager Michael Asher discovers that he is at the center of a worldwide conspiracy reaching higher than any earthly power. A supernatural organization desperately wants him dead. He doesn’t know why. Everyone who might have the answers has already been killed.
Tumbling into a web of international secrets, Michael is forced to fight back and dig up the truth. He begins to question how much of the world is truly as people are led to believe it is. Are there things that humanity is not being told? Who is the puppet master? And how far into the maze can he venture before he is lost forever?
Michael is the “Eye Guy.” He can read people by their eyes. Michael is a loner at school except for one best friend, Spud. Spud is a master at hacking computers. Everyone else pretty much stays away from him because of his special ability. He has made a business for himself, hiring out his services to find out if his clients have cheating spouses, bad business partners, etc.
Michael sneaks out one night to meet a client, Mr. Sharpe. However, this meeting turns into a nightmare when Mr. Sharpe attacks Michael and tries to kill him. Michael barely escapes with his life, his car totaled, and no one believes that someone tried to murder him. The police think he’s just making up an excuse for wrecking his car. His mother thinks he hit his head in the accident and confused. This makes Michael doubt himself for a few moments, until he realizes that Mr. Sharpe’s car would still be where the met, since he saw Mr. Sharpe dead underneath the car.
After I have set up the beginning of the story, this is where I end it. There’s just too much action without giving up any spoilers for me to write!
Harken…supernatural…conspiracy theories…who would have thought the two combined would make an amazing story. When I start reading a story, I have scenarios going thru my head on what direction the plot might take. With Harken, I had no clue what that direction was. Michael proves to be a resourceful and strong character. He has learned to put his ability to his advantage. Callista and Thad are with Michael through the whole adventure. Their bond goes deeper than just mere friendship. The villains are ruthless, dangerous and completely heartless. Harken pulls on your emotions…sadness, humor, anger, anxiety, suspicion, fear..There is so much going on your brain synopsis is in overdrive. There’s a hint of romance, which is just perfect because that doesn’t take away from the true plot, the supernatural conspiracy. Harken is brilliant in the total uniqueness of it’s originality. The end, of course, is a killer cliffhanger. I wasn’t ready for it to end. There’s so much left unexplained, I look forward to have those questions answered.
My Over All Rating:
brief introduction to Michael Asher?
has no idea who he really is. He was born with an unusual gift of reading
glimpses of people’s thoughts, making him feared by potential friends but
valuable to the people he takes as “clients” for his seemingly-psychic
services. His work is his life. Being unusual is his identity.
he respects. He is a questioner. Why would someone want to assassinate him? Why
are others who might know the truth being killed off? Is there a puppet-master
pulling the strings?
supernatural/political thriller story.
What kind of research did you do to make the world and the situations
come to life?
charts, transcripts and everything else I could possibly find about conspiracy
theories. I interviewed people who truly believe that the things in HARKEN are
true. Reptilians have a prominent role with conspiracy theorists, so a lot of
my research was simply putting my skepticism aside and listening to what they
have to say. I had to ask myself “what if they are right?”
build up to the announcement of Harken, and I (Stacey) loved seeing all the fan
pics. What were some of your favorite
fan moments during the build up to the release and announcement?
#SecretKalebBook on Twitter. Someone showed their support by writing
#SecretKalebBook on their hand in Sharpie and posting the photo online. This
turned into a trend: readers would write the hashtag or “Don’t Trust Anyone”
and send their photos to me on Twitter. That’s one of the reasons I love the
cover art so much: it pays homage to all of the early readers who made #HARKEN
readers had been waiting almost 2 years to find out, and ReadHarken.com got
about 10,000 hits in a single day.
cover of Harken? Any fun cover
the guy on the cover is NOT me, he’s a photo model. I even designed the HARKEN
out of the ordinary for a book. Authors usually have no influence over their
cover art and leave it to the professionals. I’m the exception because I AM a
professional. Before writing books, I owned a graphic design company and have
worked in marketing for many years.

Can you give us a short background on how/why you got started and what
your current projects are?
author! They started as video blogs that I sent to my family while I was in
college. My first real video was of me talking about all of the junk food I ate
in college and comparing it to all of the healthy food my siblings were still
being forced to eat at home. Terrible, I know.
life as I dreamed of being published and moving to Los
Angeles, California. My channel
suddenly transformed into something I never dreamed of. I started getting
followers and subscribers and VIEWS: millions of views from people all over the
world. I flew to film premieres, interviewed movie stars, got a reality TV show
deal, and made most of my friends through our work on that website.
latest project is a reality-show style series on what my life is like
behind-the-scenes as I juggle writing, filming and trying to start my own
production company in LA.

I should go hide those right now).
Thank you Kaleb!!
