We’re Celebrating #TeamKilt Burns Night

Posted January 25, 2012 by Stacey in Blog, Uncategorized / 66 Comments

Today is Burns Night in Scotland and because Zachary from Jeri Smith-Ready’s Shade Series is from Scotland, she’s celebrating! You can click HERE to learn about Burns Night and about some of the activities she has gone on today and THIS second post has more fun she has planned for today!

We chose to celebrate because both Pixie and I have a fascination with Scotland.  We bond over our love for James McAvoy, but there’s more to Scotland than it’s pretty boys and their amazing accents!  Scotland has an amazingly rich history that is full of oppression, attempted genocide, a fights for Independence, and amazing courage.  And it also has a grate literary tradition as well!  It’s a country full of great myth and mysticism and many horrors (Edinburgh was also big into the study of modern medicine that lead to a lot of body snatching) that helped such authors as Robert Louis Stevenson to write some amazing books and stories.

I’m not totally sure when my love affair with Scotland started, but it’s one that continues and I’m DYING to visit one day!  It’s a country full of great architecture, amazing natural beauty and kilts! What more can a girl ask for?  But in all seriousness it is an amazing country that oddly has a very similar story as my own.  And so here at PTB we are celebrating today to show our love for Scotland, Jeri Smith-Ready & Zach!

So to go along with this love fest, we’re going to spread out love of Scotland to you, with a giveaway!

We’re giving away a copy of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.  Yes, I know this isn’t a YA book, but it’s an amazing love story and shows off Scotland’s history and culture and it’s one of my favorite books of all times!

So to enter, leave a comment letting us know what your favorite thing about Scotland is or if you learned something new from this post that you didn’t before along with your email (or if it’s in your blogger profile, that works too) and you’ll be entered to win.  We’ll make this international (so if you live in a country that bookdepository.com will ship to you are welcome to enter!) and if we get 200 entries I’ll make it the 20th anniversary edition instead of just the paperback!  This giveaway will go through Feb 1st and the winner will also be entered to win a prize from Jeri!

PS for an extra entries, stop by and tell us what Burns Night activities you have participated in, leave a new comment for each activity! (entering other giveaways counts too!)

This is a blog hop! So head over to For What It’s Worth to check out the other blogs participating!

  1. Sooo want to read this book! My favourite thing about Scotland is the people. I love the accent and I love the way they like to party in family. It's very similar to where I came from.

  2. Even though Zach didn't want to discuss them with Aura, my favorite thing from Scotland is bagpipes! They are so awesome. I wish I knew anyone who could play them!

  3. I've also always been fascinated by everything involving Scotland… especially after I found out my ancestors were Scottish. If I had to pick one this I love most about it, I'd have to go with the landscape. I mean, really, how gorgeous is Scotland?! Le sigh… I HAVE to go there one day. I just have to!

Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  4. David Tennant is one of my favorite actors, so he would probably be my favorite thing about Scotland.lol. Although I'm fascinated about its rich history and the landscape.Scotland is absolutely beautiful!
Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  5. I don't know much about Scotland, so I'll have to say my favorite thing is the way they talk. I love listening to the accent.

  6. Everyone says I need to the Outlander series but just haven't yet. I did turn down a college graduation gift of a trip to the United Kingdom because we would not be going to Scotland and I really want to see Loch Ness

  7. The countryside is just gorgeous. If I had to wake up to that every day, I'd probably die happy!

  11. Scotland must be very beautiful country with great history. I like the castles, the accents, kilts. I wish some day to visit Scotland and I think that would be great expirience.

  12. There are too many things to mention them all. The genealogy history for my husbands family is from Scotland, so I'm rather obsessed. I love the sense of history you get in Scotland. Not just old structures, but the sense that amazing men and women, perhaps royalty, poets (maybe Robert Burns?) or Scottish warriors were in the same places I could go to and see. I adore the accents, my husband immigrated from Australia to the states, so he has the accent goin' on too, but I LOVE a Scottish accent. 😀 Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

I absolutely love bagpipes! Anytime I hear them, I am transfixed.. so, I will pick Scottish music as my favorite thing (though there are so many things I love about Scotland!)
