The new season of The Vampire Diaries starts on the CW on September 9th!  I (Stacey) am pretty addicted to the show and yes, I have not kept it secret that Ian Somerhalder (he plays Damon, the REALLY dark and broody brother) is one of my celebrity crushes.  So I’m pretty excited about the start of the new season, are you?!?!?!?! (and yes, this was an excuse to post a picture of Paul and Ian hehe)

Any who, on to the real reason for this post, even though I could gush all day hehe.

A while back, Heidi Kling, author of Sea, said she was writing an piece for a Vampire Diaries anthology, A Visitor’s Guide to Mystic Falls, and I was excited for more info.  Recently we got that more info and a chance to give a copy away!  How could we pass up sharing a book that has one of our favorite authors talking about one of Stacey’s favorite TV shows?

So here’s the scoop on A Visitor’s Guide to Mystic Falls:

“The Vampire Diaries” brings together today’s best YA writers of the supernatural to talk about the show’s first season: the characters, the storyline, the magic, the town. From a history of the Salem’s witches from whom Bonnie is descended to family therapy for brothers Stefan and Damon, the anthology is guaranteed to keep the show’s viewers entertainedβ€”and make them see Mystic Falls, and the rest of The Vampire Diaries, in a whole new way.

  1. I just rented the first season to watch, so I'm not caught up yet…I am a bit surprised by some of the differences between the tv show and the books, but I guess the books were written about 15 years ago…they need a lot of modernizing!! (something I look forward to: yes, seeing Ian who I have had a crush on since Lost season 1) : )

  2. Well Stacey, my favorite thing about the Vampire Diaries is definitely Damon! I loved him right from the start of the series and he has only gotten better. Ian is fantastic in this role. I look forward to Thursday nights knowing it is on!

  3. I so want to read this book! The Vampire Diaries is my favorite show on television. My Mom is even hooked and my dog loves Elena. Yes, I know that's weird but he actually stares at the TV when the show is on. LOL The best thing about the show — definitely Ian and the phenomenal Season 1 ender!. Have you seen the new Rolling Stone Television Issue. There's an Ian spread in it. Check it out Stacy!

  4. I have seen the new Rolling Stone, i liked the article too! lol and i'm glad it's a show you and your mom can watch Julie, that's always cool!

  5. For me The Vampire Diaries show has been better than the books. I feel like the casting has been perfect and the writing is amazing. I feel like I'm getting more answers than I did with the books. Of course the fact that there are hot guys to look at each week doesn't hurt. πŸ˜‰

  6. It's hard to just pick one! But I love seeing the relationship between Damon and Stefan change from week to week. One episode they want to kill each other, and the next they are almost friendly. I can't wait until it starts up on Thursday!

  7. The reason is it seems much better than the books nina makes elena more tougher i love seeing the tension between Damon and stefan . I agree with tara it cheers me up to see ian and paul on tv πŸ˜€ catherine and Elena are identical lol sorta

  8. shirarose

While I know everyone likes to pick Team Stefan or Team Damon, I don't think either one of them would be half as good on the show without the other one (sort of yin and yang. So my afve thing about TVD is any scene including both brothers!

  9. My favorite thing about The Vampire Diaries, aside from watching Ian Somerhalder bring Damon to life every week, is the relationship between Damon and Elena. I love that is has been slow in building and that their friendship is based on honesty and has moments of sarcasm, laughter, and even hostility and anger. I love that it's not sugar-coated and wrapped up in a pretty package. It is truly one of the most "real" relationships on television.

  10. Cecilia

I love that this show is its own kind of vampire show. It's not afraid to show the real truth of vampires and most importantly, this show is about the town history. I love how everything just links together and the flashback scenes where we find out so much more. Not to mention, TVD has Damon-he's so badass.

  11. Ian is probably one of my favorite things because of how he portrays Damon. I've been a huge Damon fan since I read the books in the late 90's.

  12. My favorite thing about The Vampire Diaries is Damon Salvatore and the Delena relationship I think they have real chemistry..I also love Forwood and really want them to be a real couple because I love both Caroline and Tyler.

  13. I started watching this because I was a fan of Ian. Never have read these books. I am really impressed of the level of acting; and the writing has been quickly sharpening for these episodes of Season 1. While I am slightly dismayed over the lack of backbone most of the adults demonstrate; I like how the "kids" seem to be reaching for values while watching out for others in their lives and community.

  14. I love The Vampire Diaries the TV show because of Ian's role as Damon who has so much charisma. And I love Nina's role as Elena – she's so all-women! Lol! And Paul is just jaw-dropping hotness β™₯

  15. You're right, my favorite thing about watching The Vampire Diaries is getting to see Ian every week. I may be much older than he is but he's still nice to look at ;).

  16. To be honest I haven't even watched the show really, but I've definitely been tempted by…you guessed it…Ian πŸ˜‰ lol
I've read all the books, so I've been pretty hesitant to watch it.

  17. Pat

What I like about the show is that I can relate to some of the emotions and situations the characters go through on this show. It's hard to find a show where you can really connect with certain characters

  18. My favorite thing about the show is seeing Elena every week and seeing her AND Katherine when there are flashbacks. Except tonight we get to see katherine without the flashbacks

  19. My favorite part of The Vampire Diaries is…wait for it…DAMON! Sure, Ian's cute, but Damon (as the character he is) has it all. Who wants reality when you can have it all? πŸ™‚

  20. The best thing i Love and Vampire Diaries is the twists! It keeps you on the edge of your seat and the cliffhangers leave you wanting more!! oh and Ian and Paul aren't to bad to watch either *wink wink*

  21. I love that the show is not just about vampires it's about the relationships that are formed among the characters and regular "human" drama themes. Not to mention Ian and Paul are pretty easy on the eyes.

yo! I'm a guy, but I like the whole vampire thing. I'm Liking that this season season 2 they are going to be introducing Werewolves into the story of the Salvatore Brothers. Also I like that Kathrine has aded some excitement into all of their Lives. I'm Hooked on the show.

  23. My favorite thing about The Vampire Diaries is that it makes the idea of vampires, witches, and and werwolves, seem like reality. It doesn't seem fake because everyone has such a unique personality that you get to know, which makes it more intriguing.

I live in Australia so can't enter comp πŸ™ but for the record, my favorite thing about TVD is the ever changing love triangle. Wish I was Elena!

  25. There are so many great things about the Vampire Diaries, but I'd have to say that Caroline's character is my favorite part about it. Her character has progressed so much since the pilot. Even after everything in season 2 so far, I still find her the most relatable, and just plain awesome! πŸ™‚

    -Heather H.

  26. Caroline is most definitely my favorite part of the show. Her character has grown so much since the pilot, and even after all the things that have happened in season 2 so far, I still view her as the most relatable one. I especially love her scenes with Matt (and, now, Stefan). πŸ™‚

    -Heather H.

  27. I have loved Ian since I got his movie Changing Hearts, so yeah I watched because of him, but this is the best vamp show around. Love all the actors, but have to say that Damon and Alaric together have been awesome.

  28. My name is Leanna!! πŸ™‚

My absolutely FAVOURITE thing in the Vampire Diaries is the scenes between Damon and Elena! They have like the best scenes together in the entire show! Love it!

  29. I LOVE the importance placed on the lineages of the various characters and the history of the town itself. While the history was only mentioned in the original book series, the history of Mystic Falls and the founding families is just as important today as it was in 1864. I am excited to see how it effects the twists and turns in the storyline this season!

  30. My favorite things about Vampire Diaries are Damon and Katherine. Damon is such a badass and Katherine loves to play games. So it`s so fun to watch this show! Can`t wait the next episode.
(I live in Europe but I`ll pay postage cost – can I enter then?)
    my name is Heidi T.

my name is jamie, and my favorite thing about vampire diaries, is that no matter what happens, stefan and damon still love each other at the end of the day.

  32. Desiree

My favorite things about TVD is Damon Salvatore, Watching Stefan become more like "book Stefan" in the 2nd season, and most of all the shows UNPREDICTABILITY! πŸ™‚

  33. I had already read the books, and then there's a TV show too! My most favorite and least favorite thing about the show is the same fact: the books and television show are nothing alike. This isn't just some wrong timing or small trivial details like with Twilight. They are two separate entities, and I think that makes me love them both all the more. Now instead of one book/show, I have two which I love equally. Plus who would complain about seeing Ian every week. Thanks for the giveaway!

My name is Holly, and my favorite thing about The Vampire Diaries is Caroline. She's so funny when she gets compelled!

  35. Becca Salvatore

My favorite things are of course Ian Somerhalder!!!! And all the romance, and just all of the crazy vampireness. I love all the flashbacks too, those are always my favorite epidodes!!

  36. Becca

My favorite parts of the show are Ian Somehalder of course!! I love the history of the town, the flashback episodes are always my favorite! And i love to watch the characters grow……….. and seeing Ian Somerhalder!!!!

  37. My favorite thing about seeing TVD every week is the suspense. TVD kills off main characters without a second glance- no one else in television has used this technique as much as or with as much success as the TVD cast and crew.

    Rain Sunae

  38. I have two favorite things: first, how evil Catherine is (totally dig that) and second, how clearly Damon loves Elena despite the fact that she's so NOT Catherine.

  39. What's my favorite thing about The Vampire Diaries, TV show? Hmm… I really enjoy seeing the dynamics the Salvatore brothers, and I find their relationship intriguing, and I CANNOT get enough Damon/Elena (I LOVE THEM. They're totally soulmates); those moments are the BEST! Of course, Ian, Paul, Matt, Michael, and Zach aren't too hard on the eyes, so that works out well, too. πŸ˜‰ Ahahaha. … I know this comment may not exhibit it thaaaaaat much – but I am an absolutely MAAASSSSIIIVVVEEE fan. <3333333333

My favorite thing about TVD is that its not your average vampire/supernatural show. It has enough mystery to keep you entertained. The mythology behind the intricate story is incredible. Its not just about these two vampire brothers doomed to repeat history by falling in love with the same girl. It's about this town that serves as a backdrop where all things supernatural come to reside.

    Laudelys Miranda

  41. I Love how the cast is very diverse and is very interactive with the fans no matter where they go or where they're. I also love the show because of the characters who not only deal with supernatural things around town, but also with real life issues. So the show still has a real life feel to it besides the vampires etc etc. I'm entering this contest so I can not only get a better understanding of the folklore, but be able to see how others can relate and describe how they feel about the show. Thank you for this great opporunity!

  42. What I love most about Vampire Diaries?? Everything!!! But really, it's an amazing show. How could I not love it when I get to see Damon over and over! Muahaha!

  43. My name is Jenny and my favorite thing about the Vampire Diaries is seeing how the relationship between Damon & Elena evolves. They have the best scenes together.

  44. At first I didn't like how much they changed the characters and the plot around from the book for the show, but now it's become one of the things I like a lot about the series. I hope that makes sense. lol

  45. There are so many things I love about this series! But the absolute favourite things is how Elena is really lucky: to have two yummy brothers (who are this HOT!) at her feet! And the quiet brooding, intense way Damon started to fall for her.. mmm.. I'm melting πŸ˜€

  46. I read the first 3 or 4 books and was a die-hard Stefan fan,and even so up until the end of last season! I am now a converted Team Damon fan!!!
    gotta love Damon!!
